Shoebox Mailbox Tutorial

My kids ADORE getting mail. It doesn't really happen that often, but when it does, it is a huge deal to them. My girls like to color each other pictures and they love to send Grandma stuff.
We've all seen this picture on pinterest:

I went to Home Depot and got them...aaaand then I found out you couldn't hang them on doors. Since I didn't want to put holes in the doors and the girls don't have room on the wall next to their room, I decided to see what I could make in the interim (while I'm looking for an alternative.)

Here's what I came up with:

I found two old shoeboxes in the closet and got out some spray paint I had gotten for a different project:

(Excuse the nasty table. It's seen better days so now we use it as an outside place to do this kind of stuff.)
I painted on one coat and let it dry...
Oh, the humidity. Took foreeeeehhhhver to dry.
When they {finally} dried, I took my xacto knife and cut out a big slot at the top, so I could also fit treats and other fun things in there.

AND...

Ta Da! Here's our mailboxes! Complete with mail ;)
I hung these with some Command picture hanging thingys.

So far they are holding up well. We use the Command hooks for our stockings every year and I have never been disappointed with them.

Love, Mollie
